Superior North Outdoor Center allows you to experience the wonders of northern Minnesota without the hassle of packing and transporting your bike or unexpected break downs. A rental bike from Superior North Outdoor Center means you will be riding on a high quality, meticulously maintained, Specialized brand bicycle.
Each year, Superior North Outdoor Center purchases a fleet of Specialized bikes. These bikes are assembled by experienced mechanices and routinely maintained. They are equipped with front suspension shocks and Shimano or SRAM, triger or grip shifters which makes every ride smooth. Take a Rockhopper Disc out for some local single track or cruise around town in comfort on an Expedition Sport. Superior North Outdoor Center also rents tandem bikes, car carriers, Burley trailers, trail-a-bikes, and for those seeking an extended adventure, try touring the back roads with our racks, panniers, or a BOB trailer.
Grand Marais and the Arrowhead region provide cyclists with an almost unlimited number of exciting and scenic rides. Experience the boreal forest at a bicycle’s pace: soak in a cool stream, gaze across scenic vistas or rip down exciting single track.

Looking for a great deal on a bike? Each year, we sell all the bikes from our rental fleet. These bikes are generally one year old and appear nearly new. They have been maintained regularly and are fully tuned when sold. On average, these bikes sell for half of their retail price. This is a deal you can not pass up. Contact us to get on the waiting list.
Used bikes have a special place at Superior North Outdoor Center. Each year we recondition several used bikes and make them available for sale. These bikes are usually bike shop quality bikes which receive a full tune up, new cables and new tires if necessary. Sometimes, the staff even gets a bit creative and modifies bikes into single speeds or cruisers. Stop in and let a bike find you.
All multi-day adventures wind through the forest, by inland lakes and streams or overlooking Lake Superior. Some of the more difficult tours begin with steep ascents in the mornings to reach the ridges. Routes wind over gravel and logging roads, ski and snowmobile trails and single track. Easier tours are mainly on gravel roads and hard surface trails. These adventures are great opportunities to delve deep into the northwoods. It is fairly common to ride by a moose or hear wolves at night.
Lodging for multi-day tours are in bed and breakfasts, rustic inns or cabins. Rates are based on single occupancy and do not include tax on meals and lodging. Single occupancy is available for an additional fee.

Explore the best of the Midwest along Minnesota’s spectacular North Shore and Superior National Forest by bicycle. Follow our experienced guides through the backcountry of one of the most scenic places in the world. Superior North Outdoor Center offers a wide range of guided bicycle trips. From a casual day trip to multi-day adventures, options are available for beginner to advance riders.
Our guides carry basic tools and repair items as well as a complete first aid kit. Even so, you and your bike must be working order. For our tours, you must own a ‘bike shop’ quality bicycle in good operation condition. Some terrain can be very rough and poorly maintained bicycles are likely to break or cause accidents. Before joining a Superior North Outdoor Center bicycling adventure, have your bike checked and tuned by a reputable bike shop. If you arrive early, we can arrange for a maintenance check several days before your tour. Of course, we also require that all riders wear helmets.
Specialized mountain bikes and a host of other gear are also available for rental. These items are discounted for using during our tours and adventures.
Do you like to ride your bike? Do you like to eat? Then, the Superior North Outdoor Center’s ride to Naniboujou Lodge for brunch is for you.
